My name is Charlene, the kids call me Aunt Char. My first daycare child called me that and it just stuck. I am 56 years old, married and I had 2 children of my own. My daughter is married and has blessed us with 5 grandchildren. My precious son passed away 12 years ago at the age of 21 from hepatitis.
Before I opened my daycare in 1986 I was in nursing. I felt with my children in their teens I wanted to be home but like everyone else I still needed to work. So because of my love for children I opened a daycare and here I am 23 years later still doing daycare.
I respect and appreciate the trust parents have for me by letting me take care of their most precious possession, their child. I love working with children and I take my profession as a licensed provider very seriously. We are different from a baby sitter because licensed providers are regulated by the state. We have to comply with many regulations which subjects us to regular inspections from Child Care Adm. and the fire dept. We have to maintain a current CPR & First Aid certification, have regular physicals, criminal background and fingerprint checks. We also have to attend classes and seminars throughout the year in order to improve our knowledge and skills. I personally wanted to operate my day care on a professional level so I went to college and took courses in Early Childhood Development. I am also a member of the Baltimore Co. Family Child Care Association and the Maryland State Family Child Care Association. I operate an anti-biased program, promoting multi-cultural awareness and understanding. I feel that the positive, loving, nurturing, family environment I provide will benefit all children. My goal with the children I care for is to establish a sense of belonging here at Kiddiesville. Once this is accomplished they are more comfortable and ready to except my program. I strive to teach them that we are all special and can learn from one another.
I believe that the parents/guardians are the most important people in a child's world. Your wants, likes, dislikes and opinions matter to me. Therefore communication between the parents/guardians and care giver is a major key in a successful child care experience.
